House System

‘Teach them young’ goes the adage. In order to develop leadership qualities and a total personality in students, the school introduced the house system. In this system, the Principal assigns various responsible positions to students like School Pupil Leader, House Captains, Prefects and Games Captains. These leaders help in carrying out the various school activities. In fact, they run the school on their own on Teachers’ Day (Sept. 5). That is perhaps one reason why they command a great deal of respect from their fellow-students and teachers.

The school, from I to XII standard, is divided into four houses: Raman, Shivaji, Tagore and Vivekananda. They are also given, in that order, house colours: green, blue, red and yellow. Each house, guided by able teachers forms a cohesive group but vies with the others in winning laurels.

Each house, in turn, is assigned a week-long responsibility of conducting the morning assembly, preparation of news reports, talks on spiritual and general topics, pulling up late-comers and those that flout uniform regulations, ensuring discipline, smooth movement of students to their class rooms, checking furniture, maintenance of black boards, conducting school functions and overall supervision of any activity that is connected with the school. Besides, a contemporary theme is also highlighted every week by charts, posters, talks etc.

The competitive spirit among the houses is keen but healthy. The performance of each house is assessed and points are awarded. The best house gets the rolling shield.
