Sathiyan our Table Tennis wizard's winning streak continues. In the South Asian Junior championship 2009 held at Jaipur on 20th July and 21st July 2009, Sathiyan got a gold medal in Junior boys Singles and Double category. In the Asian Junior championship held at Jaipur from 22nd to 26th July he was the quarter finalist.

This is the first time an Indian has ever reached this position in the prestigious championship. He also received a cash award of Rs. 4,00,000/- (4 lakhs) from our Deputy Chief Minister Thiru. M. K. Stalin for winning two Gold Medals (Singles & Doubles) in the Common Wealth Youth games held at Pune 2008.

Sathiyan, Commonwealth Youth Games champion, felicitated

So much expectations and hopelie on the tender and slim shoulders of the paddler G. Sathiyan. Forall his achievements and the accolades he has received, Sathiyan hasremained truly humble and has hisfeet firmly grounded. His focus allalong has been to notch victories at the highest level.

Stupendous show Recently, Sathiyan’s school Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav SSS felicitated the 15-year-old for his stupendous show—winning three gold medals in cadet category (under-15)in singles, doubles and team events of the International Table Tennis Federation junior circuit, and claiming two gold medals in the Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 in Pune. N. Nagaraju, Regional Officer,Central Board of Secondary Education (Chennai) praised the school management for encouraging an ex-ceptional talent like Sathiyan. “He should capitalise on this encouragement. He will be our second Abhinav Bindra.”

Three-time National champion V.Chandrasekar, Sathiyan’s mentor, praised the teenager’s parents for their devotion and dedication in supporting their son through thick and thin. He said that the biggest strength of Sathiyan’s parents was that they never “scolded” him whenever he lost.

They were always calm and patient,” he said. Neelakanta Pillai,Principal, Kola Perumal Chetty Vaishnav SSS, said “we feel proud tohold a function like this. It’s not a normal function.” Govind Das Pu-rushotham Das, Correspondent, said Sathiyan’s feat would inspire othersto take up the sport.

Sathiyan thanked everybody - his school, his parents, his two sisters, his friends and his coach and acade-my for their unstinted support. “If not for you, I would not have been standing here,” he said. Sathiyan was presented with a Scooty bike and agold bracelet by his school.

Divya Sudha, Assistant School Pupil Leader and Sathiyan’s classmate said “we are proud to be his friend. We hope to continue the friendship.” A power-point presentation on Sathiyan’s achievements was made at the beginning.
