SPECIAL FEATURES OF KPCVSS SCHOOL

"Jai Shri Krishna"

1. Intensive Academic Training:

Academic training starts on the very first day the school reopens. Slackness in studies and truancy from class work will be taken to the notice of parents or guardians as and when warranted. The cooperation of the parents/guardians is solicited in correcting their erring wards. The parents/guardians are advised to keep in touch with the Principal once a month. This collective effort of teachers, administrators and parents is what makes our school very special.

2. Library:

Located in a spacious and lovely building, the library provides open access to a large collection of books acquired over the years. It had been remodelled and renovated with modern facilities. New marblex floor was laid and a false roof had been provided. Additional fans and tubelights were fixed. Wall cupboards with glass doors were added for keeping more number of books. In the academic year 2003-2004, a computer was added. All the data regarding acquisition and catalogue has been fed into it.

A separate cabin for the Librarian with glass doors, reading room for the staff and colourful plastic chairs for the students have been provided. Newspaper reading stand and News bulletin boards are also provided for displaying current information. The atmosphere and facilities are conducive for quiet and serious study. The authorities encourage students to use this facility to greater advantage by providing library periods and selecting books for them. The library is kept open after school hours and during term end holidays also.

3. Sports and Games:

The school has Cricket and Foot Ball fields, Volley Ball and Badminton Courts. The students are encouraged to practise Yoga and play Table Tennis, Tenni-coit, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi etc. Facilities for athletics are a plenty here. Drill and Physical Training are compulsory components of the curriculum. A new Basketball court was constructed at a huge cost during the year 2001 and it was inaugurated in 2002.

4. School Publications:

The school publishes a calendar and diary which gives all the information needed by the students and al Brindavan’, highlights the school activities. The annual school magazine ‘Brindavan’ carries articles by students and staff. In the academic year 2003-2004 a sports souvenir was published. This souvenir contains information of the previous 31 Sports Meet - the Guests, the Champions and the endowments.

5. Gita Class:

Bhagavad Gita classes are conducted for the students of Std. V to XII on every Thursday from 3.45 to 4.30 p.m. Students having cent percent attendance will receive a scholarship of Rs.100/- and those having 99% attendance will receive a scholarship of Rs.50/-

6. Hindi class:

Hindi classes are conducted for training the students for Dakshin Bharath Hindi Prachara Sabha Exams after school hours.

7. Prayer:

The tone of the School is set by the Prayer which commences at 8.35 a.m. on all working days. An atmosphere of serenity prevails as the students recite slokas in praise of Lord Krishna. They invoke the blessings of Goddess Saraswathi and the Gurus. Slokas from the Gita and verses from Thirukkural also form a part of the daily prayer. This is followed by meditation which improves their mental alertness!

8. Community Service:

The students are encouraged to actively participate in social and community work like Road Safety Patrol, Scouts & Guides, N.C.C., Cubs and Bulbuls and Career Guidance. NCC (Cl.VIII-IX), RSP (Cl. XI), Guides (Cl.VI-IX), Scouts (Cl.VI-VII), Cubs & Bulbuls (Cl.III-V) classes are held four times per month to train students in right social behaviour, discipline, citizenship, etc.

9. Auditorium:

New ADC auditorium was rebuilt in 2005 with two green rooms and a class room.

10. Canteen:

The canteen provides hygienic eatables at reasonable price during the lunch break.

11. Accident Cover:

A personal accident insurance scheme is provided by M/s. Tata AIG Insurance for all students. Students (I to XII) pay a premium of Rs.100/- annually and become a member of this scheme. This scheme has been introduced from 2004-2005 onwards. This is obligatory.

12. Medical Facilities:

The school runs a first aid cell. Annual medical check-up, done by qualified doctors, is a must for every student.

13. Parent Teacher Association:

An active PTA meets once every term to discuss the various problems faced by them. But its executive body meets more frequently to discuss the issues connected with the school.

14. Alumni Association:

The old students of the school are welcome to visit the school and join the annual get-together on January 26. They have to get enrolled as life members on payment of Rs.100/-

15. Kalasarovar:

This Inter-School Cultural Meet is an annual feature of the School. It is sponsored by well-wishers.

16. Summer Coaching Camp:

Encouraged by the over-whelming response and success of the Summer Coaching Camp started in May ’93, the school has made it a regular feature. This two week course stresses on physical fitness and gives coaching in games like Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Tennis etc. Summer Craft classes are also conducted.

17. Shri Vallabh Cultural Academy:

To promote and nurture Indian art and culture and to cater to the needs of the residents in and around Arumbakkam, Annanagar, Purasawalkam, Mehta Nagar, Ayanavaram and also to provide more opportunities to develop their innate talents and to impress upon young minds the significance of Indian heritage, values and virtues, art and culture, we are conducting the following classes under the name of Shri Vallabh Cultural Academy. The Director of the Academy takes care of the cultural values to be inculcated, motivates and guides the children.

18. Classes are conducted for the following disciplines:

Vocal, Dance, Guitar, Violin, Veena, Mridangam, Tabla, Flute and Yoga. The key board was introduced in the year 2003-2004.

Students of classes V to VIII attend any one of the above disciplines after taking an aptitude test. The classes are conducted on Mondays and Wednesdays between 2.25 and 4.00 p.m. A fee of Rs.200/- is collected per term.

19. Career guidance:

There is a career guidance and counselling cell which arranges lectures by experts in different fields for our senior students.

20. TUNA:

Our School is a member of Tamil Nadu United Nations Association (TUNA). Talented students are encouraged to take part in its activities and are selected to participate in International meets and camps.

21. Computer classes:

This is the age of the computer. In order to prepare our students for the new era where a knowledge of computers is essential, the school has introduced computer science in the curriculum for classes I to X. All existing 20 computers have been upgraded to pentium machines with colour monitors. 5 new IBM machines with high processor were added in 2004. The school is hooked to Internet. A new computer lab was built on the second floor in 2004 to house more number of computers.

22. Maths Lab:

In keeping with the CBSE's directive, a Math Lab was set up in 2004-2005. There are provisions for enriching the ability and creativity of the students.

23. Tour:

Travel helps to broaden one's outlook. To promote the all round development of the students of Std. IX to XII tours to places of historical, geographical, mythological and religious importance are arranged every year in lieu of their field trips. The Staff Council finalises the place and schedule during the academic year. The cost of the tour is collected in instalments with the term fees. Any student applying for T.C. in the middle of the academic year should pay the whole amount before clearance.

24. Exnora Club:

To inculcate awareness about the spreading pollution in the modern world, we have the Exnora Club. The students work to protect and improve the living conditions in and around the school by planting and taking care of trees and by improving sanitation, etc.

25. Sri Vallabha Samskrta Vidya Pitham:

To propagate and keep alive our rich, ancient language, free classes are held in Sanskrit on all Sundays and second Saturdays to enable Sanskrit lovers to learn the language. Students are prepared to appear for the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Exams. The classes are open to all those who are willing to learn.

26. Art Education & Co-curricular Activities:

Literary Associations, Music, Arts & Crafts, Science, Computer Science, Gardening, Veda, Sports and Interact Club promote interesting co-curricular activities. Besides these, film-shows and educational tours to places of importance are also arranged under expert guidance.

27. Visual Education:

Visual Education is provided through T.V., V.C.P., Film Projector and other audio visual aids and also through Internet and C.D. An audio visual room was built in 2005 with Home Theatre facility.

28. Scholarship for Gita Recitation:

The Management of the school has decided to grant ‘full fee concession’ to students who are able to recite from memory all the 18 chapters of the Gita.

29. Shri Vallabh Band Troupe:

To commemorate the Silver Jubilee year, the school has formed the ‘Shri Vallabha Band Troupe’. The students of Std. V to VIII receive intensive training in playing the flute, trumpet, clarinet and drums. The training is given by experienced persons. In the year 2001 an inter-school Band Competition was introduced, the first of its kind. Three Rolling Shields for the first three places were instituted. This competition is a yearly feature.

30. Sanchayika Bank:

To inculcate the habit of saving in students, the school has a ‘Sanchayika Bank’. Students of Std. XI and IX are given training to run the bank effectively.

31. Book Stall:

The school has a well equipped Book Stall which supplies books and stationery to the students as per their requirements. This is beneficial to both, students and parents.

32. Philately Club:

The world of stamps fascinates most children. Seeing the avid interest of our students, a Philately Club was started in the academic year 1999-2000. Students of Std. V to Std. VIII have become members of the 'Philately Club'. These members are eligible to receive the latest stamps being issued by the Postal Department. The overwhelming response of the students has been quite heartening. The first inter-school Philately exhibition was held in 2002.

33. School Bus:

A 40 seater Swaraj Mazda bus was bought in 2002 to provide easy and safe transport to the young students living at a distance from the school.

34. Kola Perumal Chetty Sports Academy:

The year 2003 saw the birth of the Kola Perumal Chetty Sports Academy. This academy works after school hours from 3.45 pm to 4.45 pm. Budding sports persons are given intensive coaching in the games of their choice.

35. Sick Room:

The sick room on the second floor was renovated with colourful tiles.

36. Vaishnav Bal Vikas Teacher Training Centre:

This was inaugurated in 2004. The centre aims to train teachers to handle the pre-primary section.

37. BEAMS:

Multimedia complex was inaugurated in December 2005. The latest technology helps students widen their horizons of knowledge and keep abreast with the latest advancement in all spheres. Students of all classes are taken to the audio - visual room as per their time table.

38. Disaster Management Cell:

The school has a “Disaster Management Cell” to train students to cope up with disaster and lend a helping hand when the situation demands it.

39. Junior Science Lab:

Students of Std. IV to VIII learn through observation and experimentation in the lab.

40. Counselling Unit:

The school has a “Counselling Unit” which helps both students and parents to discuss problems faced by their wards and try to find solutions. Parents can meet the counsellor on Monday and Thursday evenings after school hours.
